Through a variety of endeavors, Francisco Curt Lange (1903–1997) grew to be a proponent in the development of South American musicology in the 20th century. He traveled to several different nations during his professional career and wrote to many organizations and persons worldwide. At a time when there was no Internet, Lange's network was extensive and rich. However, his involvement with the Internationale Ferienkursen für Neue Musik in Darmstadt continues to be disregarded in writings about Lange's legacy. Hans-Joachim Koellreutter's participation in the 1949 Darmstädter Ferienkurse made it feasible for Curt Lange and Wolfgang Steinecke to communicate with each other in Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. Curt Lange built ties with Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt between 1950 and 1971. During this period, Lange offered information on Latin American music and suggested that he lecture in the Darmstadt classes. This essay's author aims to describe the historical ties between Lange and Darmstadt based on information gathered in the IMD Archive.
