Abstract

During the fi rst stages of the II World War, Argentina and the Southern Cone became active actors in several actions and policies aimed at improving their economies through different regional and bilateral strategies. Although the plans designed in bilateral treaties and in the “Conferencia Económica del Plata” remained as mere intentions that did not cystallize in some cases, others were implemented, though at very low pace, but infl uenced by territorial disputes, distrust on integration possibilities, Argentine-Brazilian rivalry, the political instability of the region and the impact of the United States policy which aimed at aligning the countries of the region with its hemispheric defense plans.
