Construyendo la comunidad iberoamericana: Brasil en el latinoamericanismo de Manuel Ugarte

Abstract

The traveler, writer, essayist and journalist, Manuel Baldomero Ugarte (Buenos Aires 1875-Nice 1951) devoted his life, his fortune and energy to fight for the implementation of the Latin American ideal, following the theoretical line marked by Ariel of José Enrique Rodó. This paper highlights the role that Ugarte thought played, or at least should play, the neighboring republic of Brazil. From reading of four distinctly Latin Americanist works by Ugarte and consultation hundreds of documents in the Archivo General de la Nación in Buenos Aires, we tried to clarify the presence that the country lusoamerican had in the Americanist integration project persecuted in his life and writings by the Argentine writer.
