Abstract

Although the physical death was shared by all the residents of the Corrientes society, carrying a Catholic mentality, heir to the Spanish one, the way and the pomp of the burials depended on the economic resources of the deceased and his family group. Death was not limited to death, but included a process that began with the preparation of the faithful to lead a pious life and obtain a "good death", obtaining extreme unction, choosing the place where the body, what would he wear, and, above all, the resources with which he would have to pay the expenses, all this explained in a will. These steps were made explicit in the death certificates, parish documents of great importance for the study of Spanish American societies.
