Abstract

In this work I analyse the passages in Xenophon (especially in Memorabilia and Cyropaedia, with references to Agesilaus and Hiero) in which the precedence or even the superiority of ergon over logos can be glimpsed. I offer an interpretation of the meaning and value of this precedence. Finally, I try to elucidate what are the consequences of this superiority for Xenophon's written work, observing the conclusions drawn in the light of the Aristotelian sentence, in the Poetics, about the philosophical commitment that history has.
