EL LÉXICO DE LA SEXUALIDAD EN FILÓN DE ALEJANDRÍA: OBSERVACIONES SOBRE LA TRADUCCIÓN

The present exposition proposes an analysis of the vocabulary of sexuality used by Philo of Alexandria in his treatise The special laws 3 and a reflection about the problems that raises the translation of the terms pertaining to this lexical field from Hellenistic Greek to a modern language like Spanish. On one side, the translator must face the difficulty of interpreting and finding equivalents in the target language for concepts that in the source language are expressed by ways of euphemisms or metaphorical procedures. On the other side, there is a risk of introducing anachronisms or foreign notions to the original text in the translation of words related to an area of social life in which cultural differences often involve absolutely dissimilar conceptualizations of the behaviors and practices concerned.Downloads
