In Antiquitates Rerum Divinarum, Varro proposes a quadripartite system for the systematization of the religious sphere: in homines, in loca, in tempora, in res. In the first, includes the functionality of the Pontiffs, the Augures and the Quindecemviri. In the framework of the Quindecemviri description, includes the meeting between Tarquin, the elder, with the Cumaean Sibyl, Sibylline books protector. On the other hand, Ovid in Metamorphosis 14.102157, framed in what is called by the critics the "Ovidian Aeneid", describes the encounter between Aeneas and the Sibyl, an episode that distances its content from Varro and even from Virgilian Aeneid VI. In this paper, we propose to study the representation of the figure of the Sibyl according to the functionality given by Varro in the context of religious rationalization (Rüpke-Moatti) as in the process of mythologization (Wheeler-Martinez Astorino) exposed in the Ovidian work.Downloads
