El Barroco en la ciudad de los reyes. Expresión de multiculturalidad en el Virreynato del Perú

Abstract

Peru is a land with a huge geographic diversity and a long history. Within this vast picture, the encounter that takes place in the 16th century between the people that came from the sea and the local communities marks an aspect of both continuity and discontinuity. The purpose of this presentation is to ponder upon how the Baroque can be considered the means by which a society that is born out of the encounter of two worlds with large historical traditions can express its unity, identity and singularity precisely through the variety of elements that compose it.
