An approach to the Gregorian Variations op. 15 by Roberto Caamaño, allows us to explore into his thoughts, his composing technique and his ethical and aesthetical positioning, which he kept throughout the whole of his production. Grandchild of immigrants, he managed to combine the ancestral tradition with his condition of being a musician belonging to the New World. A personality with true identity emerged from this duality, committed to both the past and the present. The usage of technical procedures in connection to some of the currently used at the times, the “sui generis” format applied to his ideas, and the unobjectionable piano writing make the Variations op. 15 a unique piece within the current argentine musical production.
