Abstract

In the context of an investigation presented at the University of Caldas called“Musical-Pictorial Redefinition of the Salamanca Myth”, emerged the convenience of applying and designing mathematical foundation programs which allowed the definition of structures and the acoustic treatment of the piece specially written for this project. Principally we were based on the implementation on the Fast Fourier Transform algorithm for the analysis of harmonic spectra and their live modification, and the use of a programming environment for the processing of sound in real time. The general framework of the investigation comes from the Critical Regionalism ideas proposed by Kenneth Frampton which refer originally to the critique of architecture. As a multi-disciplinary investigation the approach implies (1) a critical vision of the underlying mythical and social substances, (2) a pictorial redefinition by means of photography, animation and painting, based on the visual substance contained in the myth, (3) an electro acoustic musical approach from the material emerging from the local folklore using the intervention of live instruments and real time processing.
