Abstract

This paper seeks to highlight the cinematic musical language of Spanish composer Juan Duran Alemany. For this we have carried out a study of the music composed for the film They Killed a corpse, analyzing the different musical blocks that make up the soundtrack. Furthermore, it has drawn a distinction between the blocks that correspond to what we consider diegetic music and constituing a type of incidental music, describing their role in each case. Interestingly, Duran makes use of music as a structuring element of cinematic discourse, enhancing the internal rhythm of the different sequences by matching the musical rhythm of each block with the pace of the scene as well as the diversity of musical resources used throughout the film.
