About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Every six months, revista Letras publishes research papers belonging to the areas of philology, linguistics, literary theory and criticism, or other disciplines related to discourse analysis, with special emphasis on Hispanic literature. This does not prevent it from collecting, if the circumstances warrant it, collaborations on other literatures.
It is published by the Department of Spanish, School of Philosophy and Spanish Literature and Language.
Peer Review Process
Peer Review Rules:
Process
1. All content received is read by the Secretary, the Director, members of the Editorial Board, the Advisory Board, or any combination of them, at the discretion of the Director. In order to optimize time, both for the authors and for those who act as evaluator specialists, a rejection can be resolved in this first instance, for scientific or formal reasons.
2. The reason for such initial rejection will be at the discretion of the Director and, at least, of two members of the Advisory Board, or one member of the Advisory Board and the Editor´s Secretary. The advice of the Editorial Board and/or specialists in the area in question may be used. In case of doubt, the final decision will always rest with the Director.
3. After its acceptance, the material will be submitted to a double blind peer review system. This means that the author does not know who is going to review her work and that the evaluating specialists do not know the author's identity.
4. Peer review is carried out by national or international researchers widely recognized as outstanding specialists in the subject and the topics treated by the paper submitted for consideration.
5. Peer review is individual, even if the work is submitted to more than one specialist.
6. To be published, scientific content must meet the following basic criteria and specialists must ensure strict compliance: 1 They must present solid arguments to support their conclusions. 2 They must be original. 3 They should be of the utmost importance for researchers in the specific area.
7. The evaluation specialists undertake to keep the material received strictly confidential and not to distribute it in any way or share it with third parties.
8. If the evaluator specialist declines and returns the paper submitted for review, he /she will have ten working days to do so, counting since the reception of the material.
9. Unless the Director does not consider it acceptable, the comments of the specialists will be sent to the authors so that they can evaluate introducing changes, carrying out a "galley test", etc. But the comments will be previously evaluated by the Director, who may modify them in order to avoid any discourtesy or improper manners in expressions.
10 The evaluator specialist may include in his /her report confidential comments that only the Director can read, but it is recommended that the main points be made available to the authors.
11. The final decision on the conclusions of the evaluation specialists will always remain in the hands of the Director, it being understood that such conclusions are not binding on the Director.
12. Once the return of the evaluating specialists has been received, the Director may choose among these options: 1 Accept the paper without the suggested modifications. 2 Invite authors to review their paper, with special focus on specific issues indicated by specialists. 3 Reject the paper explaining the reasons to the author. The rejection of an article does not imply that it cannot be accepted in the future, if the corresponding changes are made, or if it meets the criteria of a different call for papers.
13. In the event of a conflict between the opinions of specialists on a specific article, the Director may choose between submitting the article to additional peer review or accepting it according to the decision made after analyzing the different opinions of the evaluators.
14. In no case will specialists receive any financial compensation for their work.
